American, Jamie Lovemark consolidated his No 1 position in The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking after making the cut and finishing tied 45th at the AT&T National. It was Lovemark’s third start on the PGA Tour; he has made the cut each time he’s teed it up. It has been a very good season for the University of Southern California student, who is still in his Junior year. He was narrowly beaten in a playoff by former Ryder Cup player Chris Riley, in the Nationwide Tour's Rochester Area Charities Showdown at Somerby G.C. in June, this just a week after he claimed the NCAA Division 1 Championship. He has held the No 1 spot in the World Amateur Golf Rankings for the last 6 weeks.
Daniel Summerhays, USA, moved up 11 places to No 13 following his win at The Sahalee Players Championship. He fired a 5 under par 67 to take the championship, played over the Sahalee Country Club, by seven strokes.
In Europe, Rory McIlroy, Paul Waring and Kevin McAlpine all shot equal best qualifying score at the European Team Championships in the stroke play qualifying. Their performances were enough to ensure that McIlroy and Waring both moved back into the top 20, while McAlpine, who currently holds the Scottish Amateur and Scottish Stroke Play titles, maintained his position in the top 100 of The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking.
