American Webb Simpson of Wake Forest University, North Carolina won The Dogwood Invitational to move up three places to No 8 in the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking. Simpson finished with two successive rounds of 63, over the Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, to win by 4 shots from New Zealand’s Danny Lee who moved up to No 32. Simpson was on song all week having carded a course record 60 in a pre-tournament Am-Am.
Chris Wood continued his ascent of the rankings, moving up to No 42, winning the Russian Amateur at Le Meridien Moscow Country Club. Finishing 3 under par and winning by seven, Wood succeeded last year’s winner, fellow Englishman Seve Benson. Wood reached the quarterfinals of The Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes recently where he beat Lloyd Saltman in the last 16.
Jamie Lovemark, USA remains at No 1 in the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking, while Welshman Rhys Davies and Jamie Moul of England moved back into the Top 5, at No’s 4 and 5 respectively.
