England’s John Parry has moved up to No 10 in the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking after beating Paul Waring in a playoff to win the Welsh Open Stroke Play Championship at Machynys Peninsula. Parry shot three consecutive rounds of 70 after an opening 67 to hold off former English Amateur Champion, Waring, with Welsh Walker Cup veteran Nigel Edwards, who finished third, 7 shots behind the leading pair.
Parry, Waring and Edwards will all be present in the starting field for The Amateur Championship that will be played next month at Royal Lytham & St Annes and St Annes Old Links. The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking has been used for the first time to determine the field for the Amateur Championship.
Created by The R&A as the universal standard for entry into the Amateur Championship, the ranking is a weekly table of playing performance for the world's top amateur players in 450 ranking events and currently includes players from more than 50 countries.
