Colin Dalgleish, Great Britain & Ireland's Walker Cup captain, admits that he is agonising over team selection for the weekend match against the United States - only eight of his 10-man team can play in any foursomes or singles session and his problem is who to leave out.
"One of the hardest things about this job is who you don't pick," he said. "We have so many good players. I'm still not sure of my final pairings, but how they play in practice will go a long way to deciding that. I'll go with the form players."
Advance sales of tickets for the match at Royal County Down have left only 1,000 available each day for those who turn up at the gates and are expected to be snapped up as enthusiasts support a home side that includes 18-year-old Irishman Rory McIlroy, winner of the Silver Medal as leading amateur in this year's Open at Carnoustie.
