This week, Argentinian Jorge Fernandez made another move up the WAGR rankings after making a significant contribution towards his country’s victory at the 2008 Copa los Andes. Fernandez moved up 39 places to 148th after winning five out of his eight matches at Cantegril Country Club in Uruguay, maintaining a rich vein of form which included a top-ten finish in the individual standings at the World Amateur Team Championship in October.

Also performing well at the Copa los Andes was Chile’s Cristian Espinoza who was unbeaten in all eight of his individual matches. Espinoza leapt into the top-50 on the back of this result and now occupies 36th place in the WAGR ranking having been outside the top-200 as recently as September.

Elsewhere, the Ohio State senior Vaughn Snyder won the Turtle Bay Resort Intercollegiate at the Fazio Course in Oahu, Hawaii. The win, which was the second of his season, moved Snyder up 284 places in the rankings to a new position of 390th.

New Zealand’s Danny Lee still holds the top spot in the rankings having consolidated his position last week with a 32nd place finish in a world-class professional field at the Singapore Open.
