Kyung Kim of the United States moves into this week’s World Amateur Golf Ranking top 20 after an impressive victory in the opening U.S. college golf tournament of the 2013/14 season.
The University of Southern California player bettered a stellar field assembled for the Dale McNamara Fall Preview at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kim returned scores of 69, 69 and a closing 66 for a 6-under-par total of 204 to defeat Stephanie Meadow, Julie Yang and Noemi Jimenez by two shots.
Kim climbs 12 places this week to 13th in the world. Meadow moves up two spots to 6th. Yang breaks into the top 50, improving eight places to 47th. Jimenez advances three spots to 24th.
Canada’s Anna Young jumps 309 places this week to 308th in the world after winning the Cougar Classic at Yeaman’s Hall in Hanahan, South Carolina. The University of Florida player won by a stroke over three players after compiling a 54-hole total of 211, 5-under-par.
Haley Mills of the United States makes a massive move up the WAGR table thanks to victory in The Memorial tournament at the Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. The University of Kentucky player was the only player to break par for 54 holes, returning a winning score of 3-under 213 to win by four shots. Mills climbs 419 places this week to 925th in the world.
American Liz Nagel won the Mary Fossum Invitational to improve her ranking by 89 places. The Michigan State player moves to 258th in the world as a result.
Laura Funfstuck of Germany is the only other player this week along with Yang to break into the top 50. Funfstuck climbs 39 places to world number 26.
Cameron Wilson and Robbie Shelton of the United States make significant moves on this week’s World Amateur Golf Ranking after finding the winner’s circle at the start of the 2013/14 U.S. college season.
Wilson and Shelton finished joint winners of the OFCC Fighting Illini Invite at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia, Illinois. They were the only two players to finish level par for 54 holes, with matching scores of 210 over the par-70 course.
Shelton, a student at the University of Alabama, climbs into this week’s top 20. He moves 12 places to 20th. Stanford student Wilson improves four places to 23rd on the WAGR table.
Canada’s Corey Conners, a semi-finalist at this year’s U.S. Amateur Championship, began his final year at Kent State University by successfully defending the Gopher Invitational. The Ontario native compiled rounds of 71, 66 and 69 for a 54-hole total of 206, 7-under-par, to win by one shot over University of California player Brandon Hagy.
Conners is ranked 26th on the WAGR table. Hagy moves inside this week’s top 50, improving four places to 47th.
Seth Reeves of the United States jumps inside this week’s top 100 after winning the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. The Georgia Tech player took the title by four shots over teammate Richy Werenski after posting an 8-under-par 54-hole total of 208.
Reeves moves to 98th on this week’s table from last week’s position of 126th.
Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup player Gavin Moynihan moves into this week’s top 50. The Irish amateur, who began his college golf career with the University of Alabama by finishing joint 39th in the OFCC Fighting Illini Invite, moves 54 spots this week to 34th.
