Cowan scrapes Portugal win

  • Germany’s Olivia Cowan is this week’s headline act after winning the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship at Montado Golf Club.
  • Scores of 74, 69, 73 and 73 gave Cowan a 1-over-par total of 289. It was good enough for a one-shot victory over countrywoman Amina Wolf and Spain’s Nuria Iturrios.
  • Cowan, whose parents are English, breaks into the top 70 of the World Amateur Golf RankingTM with an improvement of 67 places to 67th. Iturrios moves into the top 30 after a jump of 15 spots to 29th. Wolf climbs 234 rankings to 349th

Top 20 movers

  • Curtis Cup player Bronte Law is the only player to break into this week’s top 20 with a rise of one place to 20th.

Top 50 movers

  • American Ashley Holder joins the top 50 along with Canada’s Maddie Szeryk and Wad Phaewchimplee of Thailand. They all rise three spots this week. Holder moves to 48th, Szeryk to 49th and Phaewchimplee to 50th.

Top 100 movers

  • Four players join Cowan in the world top 100. Chih-Min Chen of Taipei jumps 47 places to 89th. Thailand’s Kanyalak Preedasuttijit improves four places to 98th. Jennifer Yang also moves four spots to 99th, while Sweden’s Emma Henrikson becomes the world’s 100th best player from last week’s status as 104th.

Biggest ranking improvement

  • Portugal’s Beatriz Themudo is this week’s most improved player after a rise of 579 rankings to world number 1,931, thanks to a 32nd place finish in the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship.

Rahm-Rodriguez finishes 5th on PGA Tour

  • Spain’s Jon Rahm-Rodriguez moves to number two on the World Amateur Golf RankingTM behind Oliver Schniederjans following an outstanding performance in the PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open. The University of Arizona student placed joint fifth, three strokes behind Brooks Koepka.

Connelly wins Jones Cup in comeback

  • Austin Connelly came from seven shots off the lead to win the Jones Cup Invitational at Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Georgia. He defeated Kyle Jones in a playoff.
  • The Canadian posted a closing 4-under-par 68 to Jones’s 75. The pair finished tied on even par scores of 216. Connelly birdied the par-3, 9th hole to take the title and earn an invitation to the PGA Tour's McGladrey Classic.
  • Connelly rises three places to world number four. Jones improves 13 rankings to 26th.

Rottluff wins in Arizona

  • Germany’s Maximilian Rottluff climbs 33 places to 80th with victory in the Arizona Intercollegiate. The University of Arizona student won by four shots over Denmark’s Martin Simonsen, a student at the University of Texas at El Paso. Simonsen jumps 57 rankings to 182nd.

Top 20 movers

  • Ireland’s Gavin Moynihan is the only player this week to break into the top 20 after a second place finish in the Eastern Province Border Championship. The Walker Cup player improves 16 places to 19th.

Top 50 movers

  • Australia’s Jarryd Felton and Alejandro Tosti of Argentina improve two spots into the top 50. Felton moves to 49th and Tosti to 50th.

Top 100 movers

  • American Hank Lebioda joins Rottluff in the top 100 with a rise of 19 rankings to 86th.

Biggest ranking improvement

  • Chile’s Felipe Zilleruelo Herrera takes that honour with a jump of 1,064 places to world number 3,470.
