Fassi joins top 40 with Annika win

  • Maria Fassi moves into the top 40 of the World Amateur Golf RankingTM this week after starting the 2016-17 college golf season in style. The second year University of Arkansas student opened the season by winning the Annika Intercollegiate in Reunion, Florida.
  • Fassi put together rounds of 71, 66 and 68 for an 11-under-par score of 205 to win her second college tournament by one stroke over Lilia Vu of UCLA. Fassi improves her status as the world’s best Mexican amateur with a 13-ranking improvement to world number 40. Vu rises 11 places to 34th.

Krolboll Hansen rises to Golfweek Challenge

  • Denmark’s Malene Krolboll Hansen recorded nine birdies in a closing 66 to win the Golfweek Conference Challenge. The Coastal Carolina student bogeyed her final hole, but still ran out a three-shot winner with a 9-under-par 207 total. She jumps 27 spots this week to world number 117.

Metraux flirts with top 100

  • Morgane Metraux of Switzerland edges closer to the world top 100 after victory in the Schooner Fall Classic. Metraux, a student at Florida State, returned three sub-70 scores (68, 67 and 66) for a 12-under-par 203 and a two-shot win. Metraux advances 24 rankings to 101st.

Top 20 movers

  • Japan’s Nasa Hataoka is the only new top 20 player. She rises nine places to 15th.

Top 50 movers

  • Fassi’s Annika Intercollegiate victory makes her the only new top 50 player.

    Biggest ranking improvement

    • China’s Wenbo Liu is the week’s biggest mover with a jump of 805 rankings to world number 1,572.

    Brown conquers North of England

    • Daniel Brown improves his World Amateur Golf RankingTM by 24 places this week after practically lapping the field to win the North of England Amateur Championship at Alwoodley Golf Club in Leeds. The England International was a model of consistency with scores of 70, 70, 71 and 71 for a 2-under-par 282 and a nine-shot victory. Brown becomes the world’s 138th best amateur as a result.

    Hanna and Phillips share Golfweek Challenge

    • Chase Hanna and Chandler Phillips of the United States were declared joint winners of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. Matching 10-under 206 totals separated the pair by three shots from the rest of the field. Hanna’s effort helped his University of Kansas team take the title by 13 shots over Phillips’ Texas A&M team.
    • Hanna moves 17 places to 64th, while Phillips jumps 100 places to world number 645.

    Windon win takes Mueller into top 80

    • Kyle Mueller of the United States moves into the top 80 with a three-shot win in the Windon Memorial. The University of Michigan player scored a 67 in a final round plagued by strong winds. It helped him post a 7-under 209 total. He improves 14 rankings to 77th.

    Top 20 movers

    • American Noah Goodwin rises seven places to 17th after helping the United States win the Junior Ryder Cup. France’s Antoine Rozner joins him with a one-ranking rise to 20th.

    Top 50 movers

    • Guido Migliozzi of Italy and American Charles Huntzinger move two places to 49th and 50th respectively on this week’s ranking.

    Biggest ranking improvement

    • Marc Hedrick of the United States is the most improved player with a 1,697-ranking rise to world number 3,136.
