Thitikul enhances Thai status

  • Atthaya Thitikul improves her status as the third highest ranked Thai player on the World Amateur Golf RankingTM with victory in the Pondok Indah International Junior Championship in Jakarta. Thitikul cruised to the title with scores of 72, 69 and 70 for a 211 total, five under. It gave her an 18-shot victory.
  • She edges up one spot this week to 56th. Only Paphangkorn Tavatanakit and Pimnipa Panthong among Thai golfers are ranked higher than Thitikul on the WAGR table at 14th and 15th respectively.

Park wins Victorian Junior Open

  • Hannah Jihye Park climbs 47 places to 176th after winning the Victorian Junior Open. The New South Wales golfer ran out a four-shot winner over Yuka Saso of the Philippines after compiling a 10-under 279 total. Park opened with scores of 69 and 65 before returning a 78. She took a four-shot lead into the final round and matched Saso’s 67 to take the title. Saso maintains her status as the world’s top ranked Philippines player at 49th on the WAGR table.

Guo rides sub 70 score to Doral title

  • Sophie Guo of the United States was the only player to break 70 in Doral-Publix Junior Classic. Guo recorded a three-under 69 in the opening round, and added further scores of 73 and 75 for a one-over 217 to run out four-shot winner. She jumps 252 rankings to start the new year at world number 591.

Biggest ranking improvement

  • Cristina Ochoa Hidalgo is the biggest mover in a week when there were no new entries into the top 20, 50 or 100. The Colombian jumps 621 places to 2,037th.

Bergeron wins South Beach to crack top 15

  • Jacob Bergeron rode a third round 9-under-par 62 to victory in the South Beach International Amateur at Normandy Shores Golf Course in Miami Beach, Florida. Bergeron, who is in his first year at Louisiana State University, opened with scores 71 and 66. He closed with a 68 for a 16-under 267 to win by four shots over countryman S.M. Lee and Benjamin Jones of England.
  • Bergeron climbs 31 places to 12th on the first World Amateur Golf RankingTM of 2018. Jones breaks into the top 50 with a jump of 129 spots to 42nd. Lee advances 91 positions to 193rd.

Moll wins Jones Cup Junior

  • William Moll of the United States makes a leap of 241 rankings to world number 649 after winning the Jones Cup Junior Invitational in Sea Island, Georgia. Moll, who has committed to play college golf at Vanderbilt, returned scores of 73, 63 and 68 for a six-under 204 total. It gave him a two-shot victory Jackson Suber, who soars 762 rankings to world number 274.

Whelan/Stephenson end 2017 with wins

  • Americans Aaron Whalen and Patrick Stephenson ended 2017 with respective victories in the Agave Amateur and Country Club of North Carolina Amateur. Whalen improves 49 places to 473rd, while Stephenson makes a 439-ranking rise to world number 1,618.

Top 20 movers

  • Jacob Bergeron is the only new top 20 player following his South Beach International victory.

Top 50 movers

  • England’s Benjamin Jones is the only player to enter the top 50 courtesy of his runner up finish to Bergeron.

Biggest ranking improvement

  • Alejandro Madariaga Couttolenc of Mexico makes the biggest rise of the week with a jump of 1,447 rankings to world number 4,281.
