Silver medal takes Plant into top 30

  • England’s Alfie Plant moves inside the World Amateur Golf RankingTM top 30 after winning the silver medal as leading amateur in the 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The 25-year-old European Amateur champion was the only one of five amateurs to make the cut. He finished equal 62nd with a six-over-par 286 total.
  • Plant hopes to play in the Walker Cup at Los Angeles Country Club in September. His improvement from 32nd to 26th on the WAGR table should help him attain that goal.

Goodwin joins top 15 with U.S. Junior win

  • Noah Goodwin of the United States climbs 14 places to 13th with victory in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The 17-year-old became only the third player to win the championship after finishing runner-up the previous year. Goodwin came from four down after eight holes to defeat Matthew Wolff by one hole in the 36-hole final. Wolff jumps 107 rankings to 145th.

Ghim wins Pacific Coast Amateur

  • American Doug Ghim moves inside the top 10 by winning the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship. Ghim overcame a top-class field with scores of 70, 67, 69 and 69 for a nine-under-par 275 total and a one-shot victory. He rises four places to seventh.

  • Goodwin is the only new top 20 player this week.

Top 50 movers

  • England’s Matthew Jordan and Craig Howie of Scotland improves their chances of making the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team by moving inside the world top 50. Jordan rises 12 place to 46th while Howie improves five spots to 50th.

Biggest ranking improvement

  • South African Jacques Wilson is the week’s most improved player with a jump of 1,783 rankings to world number 3,332.

The Women

Humphreys soars with English Amateur win

  • Lily May Humphreys soars up this week’s World Amateur Golf RankingTM after an impressive victory in the English Women's Amateur Championship at Lindrick Golf Club. The 15-year-old from Essex, England took the title by a shot over Emma Allen and India Clyburn after scores of 70, 72, 73 and 74 gave her a one-over-par 289 total.
  • Humphreys jumps 96 places to 116th on the WAGR table. Allen improves 27 spots to 130th, while Clyburn makes a 13-ranking rise to 112th.

Zhang makes meteoric rise with Junior PGA victory

  • Rose Zhang of the United States makes a huge leap up the WAGR table by winning the Junior PGA Championship. The 14-year-old wasn’t fazed by making her debut in the tournament, overcoming a stellar field to win by six shots with a 20-under-par 268 total. She jumps 712 places to 307th.

Alvarez stages dramatic finish in Pacific Northwest

  • Julianne Alvarez rises 28 spots to 167th after victory in the Pacific Northwest Women's Amateur Championship. The New Zealander took the title in dramatic fashion at Fairwood Golf and Country Club in Renton, Washington. All square with Samantha Martirez of the Philippines after 36 holes, Alvarez chipped in for birdie at the 38th hole to win. Martirez’s consolation is a rise of 80 rankings to 592nd.

Top 20 movers

  • Haley Moore of the United States is the only new top 20 player with a one-ranking rise to 20th.

Top 50 movers

  • China’s Muni He and Spain’s Ainhoa Olarra join the top 50. He improves eight rankings to 43rd, while Ladies British Amateur Championship runner-up Olarra takes 50th place with a 10-ranking rise.

Biggest ranking improvement

  • Zhang takes that honour with her Junior PGA win.
