Hovland reaches number two after PGA performance

Norway’s Viktor Hovland makes a one-ranking rise to second on the World Amateur Golf RankingTM with an impressive T40 finish in the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Oklahoma State player finished on 1-under 287 at Bay Hill after scores of 74, 70, 73 and 70. 

Hammer shares win that Jack built

Cole Hammer stole Jack Trent’s thunder in the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas. The University of Texas player started the final round seven shots behind UNLV player Trent, but returned an 8-under 64 to share victory. Hammer makes a one-place rise to eighth, while Trent jumps 123 positions to 251st.

Eckroat rides 63 to Querencia title

A second-round, 8-under-par 63 gave American Austin Eckroat victory in the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Mexico. The Oklahoma State student won by three shots to improves his status by 17 rankings to 22nd. 

Gough joins top 10 with Major win

Conor Gough becomes a world top 10 player thanks after a three-shot victory in the Major Champions Invitational. The reigning Boys Amateur champion is 11 spots better off in sixth. 

Top 20 movers

American Brandon Wu is the only new top 20 player with a three-ranking improvement to 19th.

Top 50 movers

Four players join the top 50. Quade Cummins of the United States advances 17 positions to 43rd. Spaniard Alejandro Del Rey Gonzalez is six rankings higher at 35th. Ludvig Aberg of Sweden makes a four-place improvement to 49th. American Ty Strafaci makes a two-spot move to 50th.

Biggest ranking improvement 

Nepal’s Subash Tamang takes that honour with a jump of 1,695 places to world number 3,000 by winning the Surya Nepal Challenge.

Performances of the week

Swedish number one Frida Kinhult moves four places to fourth on the World Amateur Golf RankingTM after dominating the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Golf Club in Hilton Head. The Florida state player had three consecutive 3-under 68s to finish on 9-under 204. She won by six shots over world number one Jennifer Kupcho and Angelica Moresco, who climbs 26 places to 95th.

Williams snaps up Gator Invitational

American Micheala Williams began the final round of the Florida Gator Invitational in 12th place, four shots off the lead, but walked off with the title after a 5-under 65 over the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida. The University of Tennessee player posted a 4-under 206 for a one-shot victory. She jumps 105 positions to 258th.

Fuller earns first Major title

England’s Annabell Fuller climbs four rankings to 58th after snatching victory in the Major Champions Invitational at Bella Collina Golf Club near Orlando. Following a 69 and a 68, the Curtis Cup player birdied the final hole for another 68 to reach 11-under 205 and win by one shot. 

Top 50 movers

Three players move into the top 50. American Hanna Alberto makes a 29-ranking jump to 42nd after victory in the UNF Collegiate. Yuna Nishimura of Japan moves 26 positions to 47th by winning the Riversdale Cup in Australia. Sweden’s Amanda Linner completes the trio with a one-ranking rise to 50th. There are no new top 20 movers.

Biggest ranking improvement

Italy’s Ginevra Maria Zavagli Ricciardelli is the most improved player with a jump of 845 rankings to 756th after winning the Italian Girls U18 National Championship – Trofeo Roberta Bertotto.
