Castillo rises to world number two with Gator win

 

Ricky Castillo’s second win in two weeks sees him rise three places to second on the World Amateur Golf Ranking® behind Japan’s Takumi Kanaya. The University of Florida student added the Florida Gators Invitational title to the Sea Best Invitational. Castillo used home course advantage over the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville to shoot scores of 70, 63 and 64. His 13-under 197 gave him an eight-shot victory.

 

Jarvis continues winning ways

 

South Africa’s Casey Jarvis earned his fourth victory in five 2020 starts with a nine-shot victory in the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Rounds of 66, 65, 67 and 65 gave him a 263 tally. He is now 156th on the WAGR® table after a move of 73 spots.

 

Goddard soars with Portuguese victory

 

Harry Goddard soars up the world order thanks to a one-shot victory in the Portuguese Internacional Amateur Championship. After rounds of 71, 65 and 67, the England international reeled of four birdies in his last five holes for a 66 to post a 19-under 269. He moves 119 places to 173rd.

 

Pak moves to world number nine

 

American John Pak edges up one place to ninth by winning the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. The Florida State player sandwiched a 69 between two 66s to post a 15-under 201 aggregate for a six-shot win.

 

Top 20 movers

 

Ireland’s Caolan Rafferty makes a three-ranking rise to 19th after third-place in the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship.

 

Top 50 movers

 

Jose Luis Ballester Barrio of Spain makes a one-ranking rise to 50th.

 

Biggest ranking improvement

 

Spain’s Carlos Roldos Perera jumps 1,120 positions to world number 5,176 thanks to victory in the Golf East Mallorca Cup.

Telfer breaks into top 60 with Northrop Grumman win

 

Kaleigh Telfer strengthens her status as South Africa’s highest ranked amateur by climbing 68 places to 55th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking® with victory in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. The Auburn student won by one-shot thanks to a 6-under 207 total after scores of 66, 70 and 71 at Palos Verdes Golf Club in California.

 

Kim reaches career high in Puerto Rico

 

American Irene Kim advances 214 positions to a career-high 227th by winning the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Kim, a Northwestern University student, ran out a one-shot winner thanks to scores of 69, 71 and 67 at Rio Mar Country Club for a 9-under 207 aggregate.

 

Grand Prix win takes Malchirand into top 20

 

Lucie Malchirand’s victory in the Grand Prix de ligue PACA Dames takes her back into the top 20. France’s second highest amateur behind world number one Pauline Roussin-Bouchard returned two rounds of 69 after an opening 74 at Valescure Golf Club. Her 212 total was good enough for a three-shot victory and takes her one spot to 20th.

Emilie Alba Paltrinieri of Italy joins Malchirand with an eight-ranking move to 14th after finishing fourth in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

 

Top 50 movers

 

China’s Sophie Guo and Tereza Melecka of the Czech Republic join this week’s top 50. Guo makes a six-ranking rise to 49th, while Melecka is two places better off in 50th.

 

Biggest ranking improvement

 

Margareta Roos of Switzerland makes the biggest jump with a move of 754 spots to 849th after finishing second in the Atlantic Youth Trophy 2020 to Germany’s Isabelle Schlick, who climbs 135 places to 1,542nd.
